Advanced magnets save time, effort in field, shop

Featuring the world's most advanced switchable magnetic technology, Magswitch Tools, distributed by Forney, offer farmers and ranchers a faster, more precise and easier- to-use alternative to clamp, hold, position or lift ferrous steel for fabrication, welding, wood working projects and general repair projects.

The magnetic force of these light-weight magnets, which is up to fi ve times greater than other magnet systems, allows them to hold up to 250 times their own weight. Comprised of permanent magnets, Magswitch magnets require no batteries or electricity to operate. You control deployment of the magnetic force from completely off to completely on with a simple 180 degree turn of a knob.

When the Magswitch is turned off , the magnets eff ectively cancel each other out and allow shavings and debris to simply fall off for a clean tool. Older technology claims this, but Magswitch acutally achieves it, notes Bill Fudale, president of Magswitch.

"Magswitch tools take the concept of a helping hand to a much higher level," he says. "They allow you to hold, lift and position materials at any angle with unmatched ease and precision. The technology features breakthrough capability in strength and control allowing a better hold on dirty surfaces or where air gaps are present. Magswitch tools are truly a completely new tool category."

The technology features two powerful rare earth magnetic discs in a steel housing, one on top of the other. As the top magnet is rotated 180 degrees to the on position, the poles of the magnets align, and the magnets and housing become one big magnetic force greater than the sum of the two component magnets. When off, the poles cancel each other with no residual magnetism on the housing.

"This patented breakthrough in switching method is what makes Magswitch magnets the most powerful in the world," Fudale says. "One of these magnets the size of your fist can hold 500 pounds."

In addition, the ability to vary the force of this magnetic field by turning one magnet in relation to the other allows you to adjust the power incrementally so you can reposition one piece of metal while still holding it against another.

"You can do things by yourself that you couldn't do before," explains Steve Anderson, president of Forney Industries, which distributes Magswitch tools and 5,000 other metal working products to over 11,000 farm & ranch, automotive after-market and hardware retail outlets.

"For example, these tools make it much easier to secure objects when working over head or lying on your back under a piece of machinery."

In addition to a flat holding surface, the magnets feature a concave shape for attaching to pipe and other round objects.

This technology is currently available in a variety of Magswitch products. They include 90-degree Welding Squares or Adjustable "Boomer" Angles to allow quick and precise positioning at virtually any angle on fl at or round surfaces.

MagSquares off er strong, fast multi-plane work holding for welding and are machined for precise 90° angles.

Switchable Magnetic Ground Clamps attach quickly and easily anywhere on your working surface to ground instantly. No need to tack on connecting tabs or search for a ground location.

Hanging Hooks allow temporary holding of tools in your work area: lights, support wires, air hoses, ground lines and more, on flat or round surfaces.

MagJig clamps hold custom wood working jigs and fixtures in place, even in the middle of a cast iron table, where clamps cannot reach.
